1. How do I read my DARS report?
You should make an appointment and meet with your adviser to review your DARS report. DARS will show your degree requirements: university requirements, general education requirements, and major requirements and, if appropriate, additional major/minor and teacher certification. See the DARS website for instructions on how to read your DARS report.
2. What if I find an error on my DARS report?
First, contact your adviser to receive assistance with interpreting your DARS report. Your adviser may contact Registration and Records or you may complete the DARS inquiry form. A staff member will review the inquiry and respond to you using your NIU e-mail account.
3. What if the catalog year is wrong on my DARS report?
Please contact your adviser to verify that you are following the correct catalog. If there is a discrepancy or if you wish to change your catalog, please stop by Registration and Records, Williston Hall 220 to complete a Degree Information Change sheet. If you cannot come to the office, you can submit a written statement requesting a change to your catalog year. Please include your name, Z-ID, and signature, and indicate the major/minor and/or general education catalog year(s). The change will be reflected on your DARS report in approximately 5-10 days.
4. What if my transfer work is not showing on my DARS report?
Make sure that your official transcript was sent to NIU. Perhaps the required forms were not submitted, e.g., Senior Transfer Credit Approval (if over 90 earned hours) or concurrent enrollment approval. Please note that there is a limit of 66 community college hours that will be added to your Northern Illinois University record.
If you have any questions that were not addressed here in this FAQ, please feel free to contact the NIU Office of Registration and Records by phone (815) 753-0681 or by e-mail at regrec@niu.edu.
