Winter Weather Information

Current Weather Status

NIU campus locations and offices are open for normally scheduled activities.

During these winter months, all students, faculty and staff are urged to use caution and personal judgment in their travels to and from campus and to dress appropriately for protection from cold temperatures and wind chills. 

This message will be updated as necessary to bring you the latest information in the event of a Winter Weather Warning or a change in the university's operational status.

Weather Notices

Notices regarding winter weather will only be posted on the NIU Home Page when classes are cancelled at one or more NIU campus locations or in the event of an emergency closure.

Changes in operational status will also be posted to NIU Today, NIU’s official Facebook page and the university’s Twitter feed. 

You are encouraged to sign up for NIU’s Campus Advisory e-mails to be notified in the event of campus-wide class cancellations, off-campus center delayed-start times and/or closures (NIU-Hoffman Estates, NIU-Naperville or NIU-Rockford) or an emergency closure situation.
